I've been trying to list a program as an "exception" in the firewall i.e.
let the program through. I have a Sony laptop (new, with Vista installed)
and there is a program that Sony uses on their web site called "Sony
Download Taxi" that allows me to download a lot of updates for my computer
software. I keep getting an error message that "it appears that you have
Windows XP firewall installed on your computer" and it points to that as the
reason that the "Download Taxi" program won't work. Before I picked up the
computer from the computer shop where I bought it, they moved data from my
old computer to my new one. Is it possible that the XP firewall got moved
inadvertantly? I've made the "exception" changes in the Vista firewall but
have NO idea where to find an XP firewall and get rid of it. Help...

Thanks
Barry

Unless I misread the original post the original poster is not asking
where to DL anything but where to find the XP firewall on his system
and get rid of it.

It amazes me how people can answer a question that is all together
different then what was asked. Do they even read the original post
before they try to answer?!?!?

Then people yell when I complain how useless these news group are!!

Do you think it wrong to point out an alternative - especially seeing the
number of posts over the past 3 months asking about advanced firewalls.

He may well go with this and totally forget about the Vista firewall, which
is cumbersome, to say the least, to use.

So feel as you may, it is an alternative that he may desire.

Well I found the PCTools FW information very welcome. I suppose a new
thread could have been started, but, Firewalls that works with Vista are
limited.
