Recently I bought a 3rd computer running on xp, I have the windows firewall
but everytime I shut the computer it disables. I have to go into the firewall
settings and enable it everytime I start it up. Does anyone know a solution
to this.

Thank you

Angel

Do you have any other firewall running on the machine?.. have you recently
uninstalled Zonealarm from the machine?..

No that's the only firewall on that machine.

I'm bad the computer did come with a 3 month subscription to norton security,
I did disable the firewall and still have the same problem with the window
firewall.

What you should do is completely uninstall the Norton Firewall.. disabling
it is not enough on its own.. if you have problems removing a Norton
product, you will have to pay a visit to their support site..

"MVP" and you tell the guy "you will have to pay a visit to their support site?"

Pathetic, Mike. Pathetic.

It has obviously escaped your attention that Norton Firewall is a Symantec
product.. the best support for any Norton problems comes from the Norton
website..

I think that you should get more sleep.. your memory will thank you for it..

OK, Mike, so you're gonna play word games with Angel.

Why not give him a straight answer?

Again, for an "MVP," not very impressive.

Creditable that you found the Norton support page on uninstalling, except
that Angel hasn't yet had a problem uninstalling through the regular Windows
procedure..

FYI, MVP's support Microsoft products.. we have no affiliation to Symantec..

I'm aware are Microsoft's non-affiliation with Symantec...

With the way Symantec has has butchered a large number of programs,
originally from other companies, one of the most difficult problems
has been *completely* removing them form one's system.

Regardless, I feel that you were playing little games with Angel,
rather than helping him.

The title "MVP" suggests help, not only with MS products, but
with any that you have knowledge of.

Sometimes, it appears that "MVP" is a self appointed title.

You are fast acquiring 'troll' status, a creditable achievement in its own
way.. congratulations..

Why? Because "MVP" doesn't impress me?

If disagreement, constitutes a "troll," you've got a long way to go.

It is not there to impress, any more than it implies that the holder of the
award should know everything about all things..

I suggest that you look at what an MVP is, and how and why the accreditation
is awarded.. no doubt, your surfing skills will take you to the location
quickly..

What bothered me was your post to Angel:

Yes, most of us are aware that Norton was purchased by Symantec, quite
some time ago.

But, your post suggested that any help from the company (i.e., Semantic),
via their web site, would have a fee attached, and that was just plain
wrong.

It's how you help others that sets you apart and I, for one, am not
impressed when word games go along with the help. I'm equally not
impressed with any letters attached to someone's name, including the
letters attached to mine.

My opinion, clearly not yours.

Big time crow eating for me.

I went back and read your response: "... you will have to pay
a visit to their support site."

I originally read it as: "... you will have to pay *to* visit
their support site."

As I hope you can see, my mis-read made it look like you were
just being a wise guy, and not helping the poster.

My deepest apologies.

The expression 'to pay a visit to' is used by Americans, Canadians, Aussies
and Brits, and in no way implies that payment in cash/personal cheque/credit
card has to be made or met.. quite why you chose to misinterpret the
expression baffles me completely.. it happens, I guess, but you didn't
choose to question what I said.. you chose instead to insult me by calling
me 'pathetic', and then imply that I am a self appointed MVP..

Trust me when I say that I don't expect or want an apology from you.. :-)

Thanks.

It's been 8 hours since I started eating crow, and it's beginning
to taste a bit rank.

Maybe it's time to take a break and make an appointment to get my
eyes checked.

I certainly don't want to pull *that* one, again! <g>

Take care.
