Firewall Option No Longer displayed

A week or two ago my PC after hanging and being rebooted
no longer displayed the firewall option, and also the
network conections no longer showed the internet
connection.
I believe spyware or some other hack may have done this -
how do I clean-up and restore these items?
 
Download and install either adaware or spybot. Then run
the programs to clean up the spyware.
