Hi
Can anyone kindly recommens a simple and good firewall, please.
Have tried ZA until it went payware
- and Kerio 2.15. Drove me nuts with all the questions I did not understand.
I can say yes or no to programs - thats about it.
I am danish.
Kind regards
Kira

Well, in that case I would suggest that you first read up and try to learn
what the questions you are asked actually mean.
Nothing is worse than a false feeling of security.
Do your reading and then go back and try Kerio.
I am danish.

I'm German. Does that change anything?
:-)

Greetings,

Joachim

Zone Alarm is still available for free:

If you are running Windows XP, there is a built-in firewall which will
protect you from unauthorized incoming connections:

It doesn't get any simpler than Kerio. Just study the dialogs, and you will
find them simple. There's only 2 or 3 types of dialog, and you will quickly
learn exactly what to check.

Kira,

I believe this one has help files in German, if that is easier for
you.

?? I know that ZA Pro is payware, but I'm still using the free version
of ZA. (I only have a single, non-networked PC; the basic version
works fine.)

Sorry, but this is not freeware. The company has rescinded the free
version, but this site has saved it and offers it as "free."

Pirateware, yes - free, no.

Actually, the version listed and hosted on my site is the last freeware
version.

I informed Tiny Software when I first listed and hosted it, and they didn't
seem bothered so I've left it there.

I suspect most firewall programs will pop up alerts and ask questions
if set to do so. Kerio only does that when you first install it as
whenever you run a program for the first time that accesses the Net,
Kerio needs to know how you want to treat this program. After you've
run your email client, newsreader, browser, etc. one time, and Kerio
asks you a question, you check the "Make appropriate rule" box and
then say "Permit" (or "Deny") and it will not bother you about that
program again.
