Firewall advice reqd.... TIA

Which free firewalls are considered top-notch?

My best advise is to get a hardware router. They usually have a
firewall integrated, and today these routers are extremely cheap (got
mine for under $40 dollars).
They will take the load (processing power) off your CPU and will work
wonders to create your own Local Area Network.
Another benefit of using hardware firewalls and routers, is that you
can say good bye to all those worms that wander the net lately, since
by default you'll have all the ports (TCP and UDP) of your internet
connection closed (except those used regularly for http and ftp
requests).

Second Sygate. ZoneAlarm has too many issues.

Agree on ZoneAlarm. It's a good firewall....but wow did it slow down my
system. We use ZoneAlarm on the machine that some in the family use only
for email and solitaire. But it will never be on my system again. XP
update (SP-2) coming in a couple of months will have a firewall upgrade that
watches both inbound and outbound traffic....so if you already have XP it
will be free.

I have a router, but I still have Kerio 2.15 running on all my computers to
catch any possible Trojans.

Routers are awesome, but Natd and SPI only block incoming traffic.

Sounds overpriced...

Sygate and Kerio

Meaning Kerio 2.1.5, not the current Kerio 4, which is a boondoggle.

Since Kerio has taken 2.1.5 down from their site, I don't know where you
can find it now.
