Hey Guys..

i've been thinking of getting a FireGL for my home system, purely because of
theadvantages in using high-end 3D packages,
but I was wondering if anyone in Usergroupland had got one, and was
knowledgable about how these things handle games.

I don't wanna trade in my 9700Pro for something that will Rock with Maya,
yet fall over under Half Life2

thanks for any light :)

Nick.

PS : apologies about the *spamguard* thing..

You can softmod your R9700P -> FireGL card without much work. Google?

fire GL are / should be used for 3d rendering production machines, not
for gaming. The way in which it deals with open GL and DirectX are
somewhat different than a gaming card. My older fireGL3000 wouldn't
even play the games of that era, errors that were never before seen
came up, at least AFA I am concerned and the normal gaming / video
cards errors you are used to having. Errors about texture depth,
mipmap out of sync, Not enough memory to render.... stuff like that.
Not many attempt what you have in mind as the money spent does not
justify the output and the problems. Granted this was a while ago, but
I have rarely seen anyone using Fire GL cards for gaming. My Opinion
your money........

Hi.. - and thanks for the tips

I downloaded the softmod, and it installed..
but my motherboard is unstable with it, it seems..

there was a problem with my motherboard and the 9700pro, which required a
bios update..
and as no more recent ones are available, I can't really do anything about
it.

... I wouldn't look for a workstation card for games, just for artwork,
perhaps new functionality with the FireGL cards that would come out of the
X800 stable might be engineered so you could actually test your artwork
in-game..

here's hoping.
