Everytime it is started with the network available & online.
Anyone here know why.
Btw, I tried it with both the installer & zip versions for win.
They both do it.

It's about the Live Bookmark I think.

the mozilla.org contact is most likely checking for firefox updates.

and the bbc.co.uk contact?...

do you have any extentions installed which involves pulling headlines
or other info from the bbc?

I would agree, but it shouldn't be checking if updating is off,
we're probably agreed.

Um no extensions whtever, they are both spankin' new installs
running box stock wrt extensions, add ons, and plugins.

Well thanx to all for their replies. If anyone including my self
learns anything, I'll/I'd appreciate a shout out back here.

I shoulda mention both times I tried it, I went completely
through the options in about:config & the options dialog
disabling anything that looked like a call out for any reason.
So no to software updates by my default.

Also, I searched all of its directories for the text string
(axolotl) within the files, and didn't find it.

It only goes to the BBC if I Allow the first callout to succed.

Me either, it is kinda weird.

download the sources and look for the URLs there :)

Did it. No luck finding the entire string there. Did find
"axolotl" in the "en-US.dic" file. Not too revealing.
Found "bbc.co.uk" in "bug22142.html" again this doesn't seem too
revealing. Guess it is not there in plain text.

I''m unfamilliar with that. I'll try & look into it.
Interesting, here is a link for info about it:
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/live-bookmarks.html

Don't know what to think about this. I don't find any default
urls that end in rdf, or xml, and as I kinda mentioned, I don't
find the text strings for the urls in FFs directories.

I don't know how exactly that is, but default fx has 1 Live Bookmark
bookmarked in clean install. Let's say, there is 'Latest Headlines' on
the toolbar. You can right-click it to verify it's a live bookmark.
I'm confused it phone at first...but I think it's no need to worry too
much...for me...coz I need to trust sometimes...

Ah ha, a clue.
First thing I do is go minimalist, so this toolbar was off
without ever having looked at it. Turn it back on. See what you
mean. Still don't see those rdf/aml endings. No matter. Delete
the bookmaeks & back-up from the default profile & she starts up
real quiet now, thanks!
