IRC client and the lastest gecko engine (firefox has no beta release).

FF is simply a browser. It has no embedded newsreader. When I started
using a real newsreader (XNEWS) I jumped to FF. Never looked back.

Love it!

I'm using Mozilla 1.7 right now only because my favorite theme (Afterglow)
doesn't work in FF 1.01. There are not as many extensions available for
Mozilla as for Firefox, and the balance will continue to shift towards
Firefox as Mozilla gets less and less development.

Firefox doesn't do mail or news, but a person should really use a program
designed for those rather than a catch-all. I was never impressed with the
way either Mozilla or Netscape did either - Xnews and Eudora are far better
respectively.

Firefox seems to be having a glitch with yahoo's web based e-mail. If I hit
reply or compose, it goes through this loop sending my back to a previous
page. Could just be on my install.

IMHO, yes.
Are there any features to be missed?

No, as long as you take the time to install the extensions that
implement your absolutely-needed features. The GUI provides less
configurability, but there's always about:config to tweak things to
your taste.

And you won't miss out on much in the future, since the Mozilla
people decided to stop serious Mozilla Suite (Seamonkey) development
and focus on Firefox/Thunderbird.

Yes, exactly. Since Mozilla 1.7 is just as secure as Firefox, why not?

Now, if I said I was using IE because I like the way it looks, that would
be another story....

Another clown for the plonk bin. Interesting that both of them today are
posting from news.xtra.co.nz. Now that couldn't be a coincidence, could it?

I don't use Yahoo! mail, but I do use their My Yahoo! thingy. All this
year, off and on, they've been breaking parts of it, and I've seen a
lot of the kind of thing you report. I hope it will settle down soon.

The people steering mozilla.org decided that, but the Seamonkey people
aren't bound to their decisions. Maybe with a little salt water, they
can reconstitute themselves.

A lot of those people were working for Netscape when AOL pulled the
plug, and I don't expect they will stop working because of the Mozilla
Foundation's decision.

Exactly. This past weekend, trying to access my Yahoo mail led me to a
blank screen. It's not a Firefox problem, it's a Yahoo problem. I couldn't
get to my mail using any browser.

I've switched over to K-Meleon from Firefox - it's more resource friendly on
my laptop. Anyone know of an alternative that might have features K's
missing? So far it's been fine - have no issues with it and I'm saving a
good 10-15megs at least. It's sort of an odd little browser but with
tweaking seems OK.

I've had no trouble like that. FF 1.0.1 on a Win2K machine, Yahoo mail
works just fine. (That doesn't help you much, does it?)

Even if you personally don't have any vision problems, are you so dense
you can't imagine anyone else might? Some themes are too busy,
especially for people who have Sensory Integration Dysfunction. And for
poor old me with failing eyesight, it helps to have a theme that colors
the current tab differently from the rest.

Somehow the picture of you rolling on the floor laughing your ass off is
very appropriate.

If you're using an e-mail client anyway, just set it up to grab your Yahoo
e-mail. A little utility like ypops can do this for you making everything
easier. I've gotten away from using my web browser for mail for both gmail &
Yahoo.

You're right, Seamonkey will probably be continued as a community
project. So the "no future releases" argument is probably bogus.

You cannot do this with the free Yahoo account.

Please stop top posting.

Yeah, I think it will have a future, but it might be quite a while
before they have themselves organized well enough to move it forward.
In the meantime, though, ISTM users happy with the Mozilla suite should
just keep using the suite.
