Firefox won't start my dialup connection

I can't get Firefox to start my dialup connection.
If I start the dialup connection using my email program, then Firefox works
fine.
I am using Win 2000 SP4 and Firefox 1.0PR.
Options / Connections only talks about proxies.
What am I missing here?
Any pointers appreciated.

Is firefox your default browser?

I checked it out.
I had network.autodial-helper.enabled set to true.
I toggled it to false with no difference and then toggled it back again to
true, still with no difference.

Another check:

In the address bar type
about:config
and Enter.

In the config page type
autodial

Check if the value of
network.autodial-helper.enabled
is true.

If false, to make it true a double click is enough.
 
tools->account settings->server settings->advanced->POP->[tick]include this server when getting new mail

Click File
Untick Work Offline

I used this to force default .

SetBrowser

A very simple program that lets you set the default web browser in
Windows. Select the browser you want, and the program will modify the
required registry settings. Can now also automatically locate the
browser. A valuable tool for anybody who uses more than one web
browser on their system (e.g. if you switch between Netscape
Navigator/Communicator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Opera and
others).

Warning: Since most web browsers have the ability to make themselves
default (and automatically set all the proper registry settings), only
use SetBrowser in situations where browsers don't recognize the
current settings. "Forcing" the default browser, as SetBrowser does,
is really a last resort.
 
Finally solved the problem.
Under Control Panel / Internet Options/ Connections, I had Always Dial
Default selected.
I changed it to Dial whenever a network connection is not present.
It now works.
