Firefox/TBE question

I've dl'd and installed Firefox and am very happy with it, but TBE isn't
working right. The only problem with it is that no matter what setting I
use, clicking links opens them up in new tabs.

So first, is there a workaround? Second, what extensions will be adequate
to replace TBE altogether?

I did try going to Mozillazine to check this out but I was completely
bewildered by the amount of information and couldn't find any specific
answers.

Also, is there a workaround that will allow me to use the skypilot theme?
Or failing that, is there a theme that doesn't use annoying bright colors
and kiddie fonts?

TIA,

I tried TBE only for a short time because I had problems with it (though I
don't remember which ones, now). Then I installed Tabbrowser Preferences and
here it works well.

I don't know skypilot theme, sorry. Other themes without bright colors are
GrayModern and Littlefox:

Give Nautipolis a try -- might a bit small for some tastes, but it's
definitely not a kiddie treatment.

I'm with you. I used TBE for a long time (I guess from about version
0.6 to 0.9 of the browser), and it caused a variety of minor and major
problems. IMO it overreaches. That said, within a few months of a
major new Fx release, the author usually has TBE working more or less
ok.

I now use TBP along with Tab X, which just adds lil X boxes for closing
tabs. I do miss tab groups, but they are not worth the hassles of TBE
to me.

TBE is buggy.. Try this: Type about:config in the address bar...hit
enter... scroll to... browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs...doubleclick
it...go to tools...optins...advanced...tabbed browsing and make any changes
there.

You might try this...haven't used it for themes. I like Plastikfox Crystal
SVG 1.5.1. http://www.polinux.upv.es/mozilla/temas.php?idioma=en

I second this method. If you don't need any thing additional, this method
is probably lightest and fastest.

I tried that one, but it won't let me change any settings. That is, I
change them, but there's no way to get the app to accept the changes.

Okay, I reloaded it and now I can change settings. Now how do I uninstall
TBE?

Maybe I don't understand your problem.
Why not uninstall from the extension manager?

I tried it on FF v1 and still it won't obey the Options command to open new
tabs. W2K SP4.

I finally did that - I was expecting a button or icon or menu option, it
didn't occur to me to right-click.

There's an uninstall button at the bottom of the extension manager
window.

OMG, am I stupid or what? (Answer: yes.) I must have looked at that
button a dozen times when I was checking out all the extensions and
getting updates.

Chakolate, off to get her eyes and brain checked
