There has been a lot of talk about how to optimize Firefox to run the
most efficiently. CNet's most recent article goes through some
helpful tips but doesn't jump into many details. Here I am going to
explain which extensions have memory leaks or will slow down
Firefox's performance.

First, before I dive into the main topic there are a few things that
you should change in your Firefox settings if you really want to
optimize this. Just follow this tutorial that I put together.

Okay, now let's talk about the extensions. This is the point that you
may want to turn your head because I am about to bring some truth to
some of the most popular extensions.

Still, I prefer FF over IE.

After opening 20+ tabs with pages on FF, the ram it needed jumped to over 1
GIG and brought my pc to a crawl... had to alt-ctrl-del and terminate FF...
This has never happened with avantbrowser...FF is not that good with the
exception of its extension capability.

Opera should be where FF is....it deserved the number of users FF gets. The
only reason why Opera
did not catch on was perhaps its "different" interface.

(I have to add though that this may have been a quicktime problem, I removed
the QT plugin and I will test again)

23 pages open to sites (I put Firefox into Google and opened tabs on
the first 20 links. I had a few tabs open already.)

Firefox is using 107.3 megs. (It uses about 84 megs with one page
open.)

I think your computer is broke, john.

I'll leave it like this overnight and if it starts leaking I'll report
back here. But from my experience with it so far you won't be hearing
a leakage problem. I've had it running for weeks at a time. And I'm
the guy who has no protection from all those little nasties running
around the internet, just waiting for my IP to become active so they
can invade my computers.

Time for a new paradigm, john. For you, not for me.

as I said, it might have been the quicktime plugin
This doesnt always happen

Thx John...let us know!

I never went for Opera because when I looked at them, they were ad-ware.
By the time they were free I was already humming along on Mozilla...
