How come when I open firefox now in Vista, everything inside of the window
jumps? It looks like some mysterious process is continuously reloading a
page since the reload button goes from available to greyed out constantly.

Yes this is a bug (the vista guys say its a bug in the firefox ui.. lol)

The solution they said if I can recall correctly is to close the bookmarks
toolbar..

Many people have seen this problem.. its not only you

its strange that the same UI works in MAC, Linux, and all flavours of
windows... and it does not work in vista...

and they say that its firefoxes problem!.. since in all the other os in the
world it works.. ironic huh...

You know MS. Gotta be "Vista ready" to work with Vista.

Is this in 1.5 or 2.0. I am running 2.0 on Vista RTM and I have no such
issue here. The only "bug" I have seen is cosmetic at best where the ui
doesn't look quite right.

Oh on one of the posts here they say that this was solved by installing
another driver for their display adaptor card

Quote>>>
"indeed installing the rc1 beta drivers from ati solved the issue
one would think the wdm drivers would be stable in 2d environment but
not suited for games for example

yet aero and all the features of it proved to be very stable using the
vista builtin drivers but they still are using the ati drivers
so we are just progressing here ^^

The easiest fix, is to switch to Opera, you get massive performance boost,
much lower memory footprint, more functionaity, and less bugs... It
really is a win-win..

The best solution is to use IE7. It's better than Opera, better than
Firefox, comes with the OS and makes good use of the the IP stack so it is
very fast. It also makes use of Protected Mode so it is more secure than
Firefox should there be an exploit attempt. IE code is hardened and, these
days, the exploits tend to be obscure and esoteric. Firefox's is not
hardened, the exploits are more tend to be more fundamental and therefore
more risky, and it doesn't have the Protected Mode option making it even
more risky.

Thanks for all the advice. I Thought it might be a bug in a video driver or
something. Turning off the bookmarks tool bar fixed it. I also have a
problem running Star Wars Lego 2. I believe that's a driver issue that's
unresolved as of now.

All this blaming Vista, blaming Aero. Blame your hardware, drivers, setup
and configuration.

It is strange as I have Vista Ultimate RTM installed, am using Aero Glass,
have Firefox 2.0 installed, keep the bookmarks side constantly open and have
no jumping in firefox.

Now, this is on a motherboard that is four years old and is no longer
supported by Asus. Therefore I have only the M/B drivers and sound drivers
that are available either on the DVD or through Windows Update.

This only happens with Aero Glass,
I dont have a glass capabe card at the moment on this machine,
so I cannot confirm this...

Ahh... ok. I see what you were talking about. I never noticed it
because I transferred a profile from my XP install. It only occurs
under the following circumstances.

The bookmarks toolbar is visable AND empty

Aero doesn't affect this bug. I have an Aero capable card. To see if
Aero was a factor after being able to reproduce it I switched to the
Vista Basic theme. The bug was still there. I had created a new
profile specifically to check for this bug. This was so that any
plugins that I had installed wouldn't become a factor in this check. I
purposely deleted the bookmarks in the bookmark toolbar. Hiding the
bookmark toolbar or adding something to it will work around the issue.

I'm going to post my findings to the bug report mentioned in the one
post. Thanks for the link btw.

P.S. - My GeForce 6800 GT card is Aero Capable.

I found this to be an issue in the bookmarks toolbar when it is empty.
Hiding or putting something in there will correct it for now. Thanks to
NewsFox for the link so that I had an idea of the situation where the
bug was occuring.
