If some clever .xpi developer wants a new project to work on, then
here is my suggestion.

Page Substitution: An extension to do general search and replace
operations on web page text before rendering.

For instance, I might want to replace any occurrence of the text
"Microsoft" with "<a href="http://www.microsoft.com">Microsoft</a>".
Or, any occurrence of "http://*smiley.gif" with
"file://c:/images/dead_smiley.png".

This idea was inspired by AdBlock, which I use to block animated
smileys and avatars in web forums, when I thought it would be fun to
replace them with my own images. Also it would be possible to remove
hideous background images, or Larry Wall's chartreuse background
colour: http://www.wall.org/~larry/

You find that a program like Proxomitron (freeware) can do the job better. You might want to
post a request for a filter to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/prox-list/ (you can also download
it from there or http://www.proxomitron.info
