Get "Download Scan" from here:

http://downloadstatusbar.mozdev.org/downscan/index.html

The developer's description:

"Automatically start a manual (a.k.a "On Demand") Anti-Virus scan when a
download completes.
You must already have an Anti-Virus program capable of accepting a file path
from the command line."

Install it and then configure it for your av program.

Thanks I download it but where is it and how do i set it up?

For the anti-virus location, browse to c:/Program files/Grisoft and look for
the avgw.exe file.
Under the arguments type the following:
/SE %file%
I just set it up on my computer and it works great.

Hi Carolyn

Can u explain 'Under the arguments' please

Open up your Firefox browser. Go to Tools/Extensions. Scroll down until
you see the Download Scan extension. Put your cursor over this box and
right click and select options. This will bring up another box that you
fill in with the location of your anti virus program and arguments type
information that I gave you.

Carolyn,

Is is really necessary to fill in the "Arguments" box? I have mine set up with
just the location of the avg scan exe and it works perfectly. (just curious)

I tried running it with nothing in the arguments and it didn't work for me.
I then tried adding "/SE" and that didn't work either. I finally found the
answer on the forums that worked for me and have passed that along.
Certainly if it works for you without adding anything in there, so much the
better. I really have no idea what the arguments box is and what all that
stuff that I put in there means but I know that it works, so I am happy. :blush:)

Doesn't work. AVG loads and tries to scan but produces:

Scanned = 0
Infected = 0
Cleaned = 0
Moved to vault = 0
Deleted = 0
Errors = 1

%file% Cannot open; not checked! not scanned

Different versions of AVG require different configurations in Download Scan.
Regardless of which version you are using, first open the "Preferences for
Download Scan" window. Click on Tools ->Extensions, then cursor down to
Download Scan and double click on it. This will open the Preferences window.
Be sure that the
"Manually scan completed downloads" box is checked. Now, here is where the
two AVG versions differ:

1) If you're running AVG6 Free, first find the file "avgse.exe". The path to
that file is most likely C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\avgse.exe. Place that
full path in Download Scan's "Anti-virus program location box". Leave the
"Arguments" box alone. Be sure that [Path] is in there. Click OK and go.

2) If you're running AVG7 Free, first find the file "avgw.exe". The path to
that file is most likely C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgw.exe. Place that
full path in Download Scan's Anti-virus program location box. Now go to the
Arguments box. Type in /SE just before [Path]. Leave [Path] in there. Click
OK and go.

Both of these have worked for me. They should work for you. Give it a shot.
Hope this helps.

Hi Carolyn
I'm still not there -
AVG fires up but i get a 'Cannot open, not checked' message
Is there anything else that I should put in the arguments box besides
/SE %file%

Not on a Bet included some additional information in his post that may help
you. I have included it here, just in case you missed it.

I am running a paid version of AVG7, so it appears that there are many ways
to configure this extension depending on what version of Grisoft you are
running.

=== I tried this , it just doesn't seem to work with AVG7 free on my
computer (Win XP home)....my path is .... C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG
Free\avgw.exe if that makes any difference ....... although the "
/SE " works in StarDownloader ===

Mike --

For AVG7 Free be sure that you've configured Download Scan as follows:

1) The "Manually scan completed download" box should be checked;

2) In the "Anti-virus location box" you should have your path, which is:
C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgw.exe;

3) The Arguments box should look like this: /SE [Path].

Be sure to leave a space between /SE and [Path]. I didn't mention this in my
previous post, so I apologize for any confusion I might have caused.

One other thing I should mention. Download Scan does not control external
download programs like StarDownloader, LeechGet, FreshDownload, etc. It only
controls downloads made directly by Firefox itself through its own internal
download manager. External downloaders must be configured separately. It
looks as though you already know that, but I want to mention it to avoid any
further confusion.

To test out the configuration above, I just downloaded about a dozen files
from several web sites directly with Firefox and w/o using any external d/l
program. In each case AVG7 Free ran perfectly. FYI, my system is Win2000 Pro
with SP4 installed.

Try it. It should work for you.

Finally! And the one thing I was doing wrong?? Not CAPITALIZING the P
in Path!!

It works perfectly now with no external download program, just FF and
the Download scan extension.

Using AVG7 free and WinXP Pro SP2.

Thanks Not on a Bet!

Ok, you nailed it! As someone else pointed out, it's essential to
capitalize the 'P' in '[Path]'. Failing to do so will ensure failure.

Thanks again,

Buz

Martin,

that's exactly what I use for both the Firefox downloader and my outside
download manager and it works for me on a Win98SE system.
