Can I have IE as my default browser and have certain web pages open with
firefox or vice versa

You can use both, but remember Windows Update only accepts IE (surprise...
surprise!!).

Yes but can I have some of my shortcuts open with firefox and some open with IE without atomatically

I'm guessing that would be difficult, as the default action would be opening
with the default browser.

Probably it could be done, but I don't know how.

Yes, you can. Set Firefox as your default browser, then create a desktop
shortcut with this target:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" http://www.yoursite.com

I assume you can make shortcuts that open a page in Firefox, too, but I
haven't tried it. I use for Firefox for everything except the few sites that
only work in IE. This is usually the result of poor coding by the page
designer.
