Firefox 4

Tried the BETA and the RC, liked it but some of my addons didn't.

Still runnning for now, think i'll do fresh install of FF when the new ones out, swear its getting slower to start up.... Ever since i installed IE9!

I have just downloaded FF4 and so far I'm liking it a lot - it seems to be speedier than my previous version of FF. :D

As I type in the "quick reply" box, I am seeing two white, vertical white lines briefly appearing as I hit the keys/space-bar (or left click). Bit puzzled about that... anyone else notice it happening? I can't get a screen shot to illustrate... ooh, yes I can!! Will attach it below, you can just make out the tiny lines dissecting the black part of the surrounding box, if you look (very) closely.

(They are still happening in the "go advanced" reply area too. It's no biggie, I'm just a bit intrigued.)

At the same time, I downloaded the Flagfox extension, which "Displays a country flag depicting the location of the current website's server and provides a multitude of tools such as site safety checks, whois translation, similar sites, validation, URL shortening and more..." Hmm... might be interesting. Don't think it is the cause of the "lines" though, because they happened before I got the extension. :)

I've just been watching YouTube and no problems at this end. :thumb:

(Except for those "lines" which now have turned black!)

Oh, I do like FF 4 :D... Much better than 3.6!

Thanks for the screenshot TC :). I'm not sure why that is happening, but we're using the stock forum software WYSIWYG editor, so I'm sure there will be a fix soon if there is a problem with vB 3.8/FF4. I'll keep an eye on this problem and report back in another thread once I know more :thumb:.

I can't replicate this at my end, but I'll keep trying!

Just out of interest, the same thing happens on other forums I've visited. (Powered by phpBB Group and vBulletin (version 3.8.4) respectively.) So probably just a wee quirk of the new browser.

The good points definitely outweigh minor issues though methinks. It's really speedy. :D

Ok, so just installed FF4, with new profile as my previous 3.6 install was highly customised, themed, tweaked and hacked, and it broke several bits of FF4....

Not too much if an issue really, Infact its a good idea to start a new profile once in a while as it helps keep the browser running at top speed. The older your profile the slower its gets, generally. ;)

Heres a link that tells you what bits to copy should you wish to do the same....

With a new fresh new profile its is notcably faster that the 'upgrade' path that i took originally. :thumb:

Ok, back with new FF 4.0 and new profile.... Lightning fast.

I am so tempted to say something negative and derogatory about Firefox but I won't, each to his/her own eh?

Wasn't Firefox the name of that TV trailer thingie that Uma Thurman appeared in in Pulp Fiction?

As in joke: Ketchup?

Maybe, maybe not...

Just before the launch Mozilla started working on the Firefox 4.0.1 so expect an update anytime. Some of you who are experiencing issues, this update may fix them. Let's wait and see.

Firefox 4 thumps IE9 in first day download contest

Unlike Microsoft's IE9, Firefox runs on Windows XP, still the world's most popular OS

Computerworld - Users downloaded nearly 7 million copies of the new Firefox 4 in the 24 hours since its launch yesterday, Mozilla's running tally claimed.

That number was almost triple the 2.4 million copies of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) that Microsoft claimed were downloaded in its browser's first day of availability last week.

Mozilla officially launched Firefox 4 Tuesday at around 10:00 a.m. EDT, bagging an even million in the first three hours. According to Mozilla's real-time calculator, about 6.5 million copies of Firefox 4 had been downloaded by 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.

This is quite fascinating to watch...(okay, I know... little things please little minds, but hey, it's "different.") :D Each pinpoint that lights-up on the world map, represents a download being made. It looks a bit like mini firework displays.

So, after a bit more tweaking and playing, I think i've settled on my setup of FF4...

I cant bare to loose the Add on bar (Status Bar) at the bottom though, just too handy.

Nice little tip btw...

If you think the text is a little blurry, try turning hardware acceleration off (or on in some cases) This seems to help most people.

Also...

gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.enabled - Default value is false, set to true and restart. :)
