Despite trying many things I still get the "Finishing extension
installations" box HOWEVER if you open a second Firefox window it works
ok. Then close the other one if you want to.
I had this problem too, under Windows 2000 SP4. I had to go and
uninstall all earlier versions of Mozilla and
Firefox/Firebird/Phoenix. Then I went and manually removed any files
pertaining to the above apps from my Program Files and from the
C:\Documents and Settings\%user profile%\Application Data directory.
Then reinstalled Firefox 0.9. That problem no longer bothers me.
However, I still seem to have a lot of trouble with actually getting
Extensions installed or working. About half of the time I can't
download the extension, either it never connectes to download or it
downloads but then shows up in the Extensions list with "Download
Error". When it does manage to download, about half the time it'll
show up in the Extensions Manager list for but a moment and then
disappear, never to be seen again. The other half of the time, it'll
stay persistent in the list, but the functionality that it promises
doesn't work (additional commands that should show up in the
contextual menu when I right-click on an object to perform an action
aren't there, etc.) Note that the extensions that I'm installing do
claim to be compatible with v0.9.
Seems like the Extensions Manager has taken a step in the right
direction from a design standpoint, but is severely broken from a
functionality standpoint.
