Firefly v1.4 [1770K] Win98/2k/XP Pro Shareware
Communication--This one is definitely a tool worth checking out. This
simple program integrates instant messaging and VoIP. The program is
easy to install without adding any malicious software or spyware to
your computer. I had no problems getting the program to operate
through my firewall. When you install firefly, you register for your
own phone number that others can call you at. You have the option of
publishing the number in the firefly directory. On top of this, you
also get a fully featured voice mail service. A great program for
those who want free worldwide calling!

Looks like it's freeware to me. However, the download is an executable
and probably like you, I'm not willing to download and install it in
order to find out if the license reveals some kind of hidden fees. The
site does say "Download for free", but that doesn't mean much.

I looked it up on Tucows for you.
http://www.tucows.com/preview/344929.html

Tucows says that it's freeware, and they point to a DIFFERENT website
that explains the product much more clearly than FreshTel.
http://www.virbiage.com/

That website also says that it's freeware (not just a "free download",
which isn't the same thing), and that it does not contain spyware.
http://www.virbiage.com/firefly/faq.php#q3

I suggest you use that site.

Hello:

It is free but a little suspicious?? The reason I say this is because:

1) Both computers have to be running and program connected to their
server.

2) They want you now to dial a number just like when you use a phone.
Then you connect to the other party.

3) I do not know if the conversion from that point forward is through
their server or a direct connect from your computer to the one you " have
dialed ".

4) I have a feeling that once they have enough people using their
product, payware it will be!! " As easy as using a phone "

If you want VOIP, go with your own server and client set up. The gamers
out there all know about TeamSpeak at http://www.teamspeak.org/ . Works
well and no worries about how the info is being received from one
computer to another.

FYI: VOIP is not secure unless it is encrypted which TeamSpeak is not!!!
Someone could " Listen " to your conversion however unlikely!!

Regards

Indeed,... I'm not keen on installing an exe file...

FWIW, i installed firefly about 3 days ago with 3 other friends when i
found it on www.download.com.

It's actually quite good (considering its freeware) and pretty
functional. I do think you use the firefly server when talking to
somone, but you can connect to any 3rd party server you like instead
of using firefly's servers.

It does have the occasional drop out (like one dropout over a 2hr
period)... but all you have to do is redial the person and your back
talking to them. The voicemail feature is quite handy too. The version
i downloaded was 1.3.

More convenient than msn chat that's for sure (although quality is a
fraction lower).

Cheers,
