Hi everyone

I am upgrading my system and I need a beefier PSU.
My partner says it is best for me to get someone to proffesionally install it but I think I can do it myself, if I get a decent PSU will there be a chance of a fire if not correctly installed? Is it worth me paying the extra money for someone to do it for me?

Thanks in advance

Adz

Yes, defineteley give some extra money for some expert to install it.
Wheather even I know how to do it, I'd rather give some1 else that resposnebility. If he blows sth up, they pay you :P
And what's the most important, it's not so expensive!

thanks for the quick reply mate, since you live in Croatia I take it you wouldnt know anywhere I could get it done? Any one in the UK know somewhere I could get it done?

I suppose if you aint sure then yes. But they can only be fitted one way anyway

Upto you I guess, however getting someone else to fit something as easy as a PSU your are not only going to be out of pocket but you wont learn either

Good luck

No! you will not get a 'fire' from installing your own PSU ... some smoke maybe. ;)

Changing a PSU is a simple task, providing you have a standard built system in the first place ... some older PC did do their it own way, but even 'they' have learned by their stupid mistakes that it is better to use std components'

If you give us more details on the PC in question, make/model, I'm sure we can help further.

Its a HP media center PC its definately ATX I only got it last year. It came with a crappy x1600 ATI card.

Novatech quoted me £44 to do it. My partner is over cautious if you know what I mean :( I also asked them how much they would change my graphics card for and they said £76 for the both of them.

I know how to do it roughly and as long as dont buy a cheap PSU there should be no problem?

Should have added that it's a good book & will help you through doing most jobs on a pc.
I'm on my 2nd copy of it & used it often when working as in IT Techie.:thumb:
