i bought a jvc camera with firewire
i thought it would transfer film quickly to pc
but i see it as a other interface thats as slow as all others see no
benefits or am i wrong
i always dump the whole video to harddisk and edit it form there
so i need to capture it and has to wait for 1 hour movie the same time 1 hour
so i see no advantage of a fast inteface for this
also work on the mac what makes the use of a faster fire wire 800
if you have to wait the same capture time
i tought it would be faster with firewire but now its stays the same
for me its no more the expensire electronic botton to say run and stop
end of capture
or am i totaly wrong

please correct me if i complete misunderstand the fire wire interface for
video
cees

The time to capture may be the same, but the amount
of data that's captured during that time is much greater
using FireWire than streaming USB.

The result is a much larger file that is an exact digital
copy of the video from your camcorder.

With streaming USB you get a reencoded video, that
is lower-resolution and lower-quality than the original
video stored in your camcorder.

well i normaly capture not with usb
but inside my laptop with svideo in on max format and even could do high
definination with the windows codec
all on avi format
so really cannot see any advantage

that of course depands how i capture
avi s video screen 640 x480
avi s video screen hd (this is not possible with camera ) but with
svdeo source of hd camera
dv (max resolution )640 480

wich model do you have figure's for 1 hour?
i will do a test
but i am sure s video is the same avi format as my fire wire

Does your hd stand for high definition?
What camera are you using?
DV-AVI is 720x576 in PAL, and 720x480 in NTSC, I'm not sure where your
640x480 comes from, unless you are making a dv file from your analogue
capture which will be limited by the file size to begin with or the
compressed size of the avi file you are making. Bear in mind avi is not
fixed, it is purely a wrapper used to enclose the video and comes in lots of
different types.
Firewire will supply full size dv-avi, which is hte largest and best quality
you can get. Analogue capture, without an analogue to digital convertor,
will not supply a file of the same quality.
