instead of using zone alarm and spy bot is there one program that does both?
which is considered the best?
thank you, harriet

these are 2 seperate things
zonealarm is a firewall that protects your system from
incoming and out going traffic
spybot(along with things like adaware) is a program like
antivirus software that searches your system for spyware
and also monitors your system for future infections.

Note that the program is called "Spybot Search and Destroy," not
"Spybot." It's not a spybot, but gets rid of spybots.

I use the free ZoneAlarm, not ZoneAlarm Pro, but the description
of the Pro product makes it sound like it does at least some of
what Spybot Search and Destroy does.

However, I wouldn't rely on this. I don't even rely on one
anti-spyware program, but use three: Spybot Search and Destroy,
Adaware, and Spyware Blaster.

I find the internal firewall provided by Microsoft to be robust enough for me and using a second firewall will cause problems. I also suggest you get and install SpywareBlaster. It's free and even SpyBot Search and Destroy admits it's better than it's immunize program. Good luck.

Please tell me your joking.....

The inbuilt Firewall is not adequate to provide system protection. Turn it
off (it's basically not protecting you anyway) and get yourself a proper
Firewall. If you don't want to pay for one, then try Zone Alarm.

I agree that ZoneAlarm (and other choices) are better than the
built-in Windows firewall. But it's *not* true that the built-in
firewall is "basically not protecting you anyway." It's much
better than nothing. It's good enough, for example, to stop the
Blaster worm.

Hogwash. The built in firewall is more than adequate for good protection.

I have been running the XP Pro firewall and Norton's simultaneously for a
year with no problems. Have I just been lucky? I did this 'innocently.' What
are the potential problems from running two firewalls? CGS
