You know I love Microsoft and I didn't expect them to give me the software for trying it out, but it does irritate me that a month after it is finalized, I still cannot find a copy.

They should have at least sent those of us to participated in the Customer Preview Program the final DVD with a 60-90 day trial and an opportunity to pay for a license. It isn't like Microsoft to leave us hanging so.

I used to be a member of MSDN and TechNet but found I didn't really use it.

Good point, Steve. The CPP versions were basically a gift for $10 or so, so
it is hard to complain. However, RC1 was a piece of junk, and with RC2
coming so close behind, it would have been "nice" to see us receive RC2
instead of RC1. No real hard feeling, though, as it was great to use whatever
they sent for the price of two coffees.

After RC2 they pulled that from online and put RC1 back...

They had stated that RC2 was not "tested" as much as RC1

However RC1 RC2 and RTM are all crap by design.

There may be a trial. Why it is being delayed and Office 2007's trial is
not I have no idea. But I have long ago not tried to put MSFT and Logical
in any kind of consistent context. I've had a look at every Windows menu
before.

That the CPPs didn't get a Beta though many of them did a lot more bug
reporting than thousands of the TBTs may be unfair, but MSFT had to put a
cutoff somewhere with freebies and since there were about 30,000 plus or
minus different Beta, TAP, MVPs and other categories that got freebies, and
200,000 or so CPPs they didn't offer free.

There isn't much doubt there will be free trials of Vista circulating.
There were of every other past OS. Why don't you download a free trial of
Office 2007 and use all the resources they have to learn its changes?

They have a lot of resource on Offie 2007 compared to the meager in depth
resources on Vista on the MSFT sites right now.

By the time they get around to the free trial of Vista, Ed Bott's and his
co-authors Vista Inside Out will be out putting some good information that
MSFT has refused and failed to put out into the public domain.

I was part of the CPP program. I received multiple e-mail messages telling
me how important my feedback was, and that they needed me to provide valuable
feedback. I sent in many bug reports. I genuinely helped Micro$oft because
they asked me. And yet, I am not even given a trial version of Vi$ta RTM to
try until January the 30th when its released. The right thing to do would've
been to give a free copy to anyone who submitted a bug report that helped
them out. Hey, I'll take a 90 day trial. By then, I would at least be able
to buy a copy. The incredible LOSERS (with a capital 'L') have missed out on
the Christmas buying season. Its hard to believe that they won't be
releasing it for Christmas. What a letdown. I feel like I've been violated
somehow. As a PC enthusiast, I am unhappy, and depressed by it all. I'll
still buy an upgrade to Vista ultimate. I just upgraded my dual Xeon to 3.4
GHz processors, 512 MB video card, and 4 Gigs of high speed RAM.
I can't help but feel that somehow Micro$soft will regret missing out on the
CHristmas buying season. Someone, somewhere in that company is a PINHEAD.

You feel violated because you did not profit in some way from choosing to
participate in a public beta? Get a grip. Oh, and I won't bother to bore
everyone in this group with my opinion of the people who substitute the 'S'
in MS related brands with the dollar sign. Sigh.

They pulled RC2 back when they had the desired quota of downloads (100,000).
It was a limited release by design.

So far it has not been released to the general public. MSDN and TechNet
users have access to use it according to the terms of their license, and
business users have the business editions. But there has, as of yet, been
no public release of the final versions so there would clearly be no trial
copies.

Yes, and I have the RTM version of Office 2007, which is good until 2/28/07. I am just surprised that Vista is not on the Microsoft web site either. It does make me wonder. (Actually, we just received our license at school for Office Professional Plus 2007, so tomorrow I can activate it.)

I am not slamming Microsoft here. I think it is an oversight on their part, especially the sales side. They could have seeded interest.

The only difference in Business which is available for purchase as I have
outlined above, and Ultimate is that Ultimate has MCE interface and Bit
Locker encryption. I think that a lot of people who are asking about this
haven't taken the time to evaluate the difference in cost and whether they
need these features, and I'm not arguing the security advantages of Bit
Locker encryption.

CompUSA also told me that they are only selling Office Upgrades now of the
four editions I mentioned in my previous post. I tried hard to verify this
with MSFT's licensing sites for Vista and Office but the information on them
on the two "business oriented" offers was awfully nebulous as was the MS
Presspass release on this joint venture with CompUSA.
