Combination of TWO
===============

I have four basic numbers 1 2 3 4. If I have to make all possible
combinations of TWO out of these four basic numbers, then the answer
would be SIX =COMBIN(4,2).

I am planning to make unique sets out of these combinations. Since
there are four basic numbers, I will have to make a grid of 2 X 2
consisting all unique numbers which comes out to be THREE

1. 1-2 & 3-4 (All individual numbers in each set is unique)
2. 1-3 & 2-4
3. 1-4 & 2-3

If I have six basic numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 and if I have to make all
possible combinations of TWO, then the answer would be FIFTEEN
=COMBIN(6,2)

If I make unique sets out of these combinations, I will have to make a
grid of 3 X 2 which comes out to be FIFTEEN

1. 1-2 & 3-4 & 5-6 (All individual numbers in each set is unique)
2. 1-2 & 3-5 & 4-6
3. 1-2 & 3-6 & 4-5
4. 1-3 & 2-4 & 5-6

If I make unique sets out of these combinations, I will have to make a
grid of 3 X 3 which comes out to be 280

formula to calculate the result. I want to know is there any way to
derive the answer from any formula?

One more thing to clarify things out:

Take the first example (01. 1-2-3 & 4-5-6 & 7-8-9)

There are three combinations of three numbers and it covers all basic
nine numbers
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9

Second example (02. 1-2-3 & 4-5-7 & 6-8-9)

Again there are three combinations of three numbers and it also covers
all the basic nine numbers but BOTH AS A SET are different from each
other.
1 2 3
4 5 7 (the number 7 was in third combination in first example)
6 8 9 (the number 6 was in second combination in first example)

I hope this will be helpful to understand the whole scenario.

Because it is already there in the list of 280. Have a look at 237th
record 1-6-8 & 2-4-9 & 3-5-7

The basic idea is that there should be 3 combinations of 3 numbers each
and all the 9 basic numbers should be covered.

The formula that I discoved is as follows but I am not sure if this is
mathematically correct.

Basic numbers : 9
Combinations: 3

9/3=3 (there should be three steps to arrive to the final answer)

step1:

=combin(basic numbers,combination)/3
=combin(9,3)/3
=84/3=28

step2:
=combin(basic numbers - 3,combinations)/2
=combin(6,3)/2
=20/2=10

step3:
=combin(basic numbers - 6,combinations)/1
=combin(3,3)/1
=1/1=1

step1 answer x step2 answer x step3 answer

28*10*1=280
