I have a new computer with Windows XP Home Edition. How
do I get to a word processor compatible with "Word" and
how do I get to a spreadsheet program. Thanks

Since Windows XP is strictly an "operating system", you'll need to
go out and purchase Microsoft Office and install it.

Hi Jerry,

You would need to purchase a compatible program set and install it. WinXP
Home, like all versions of Windows, does not come with a word processor or
spreadsheet application. The closest thing it has is wordpad.

The Microsoft "Works" package contains "Word", a calendar program, a
Spreadsheet program, and some other stuff that might adequately serve your
purposes and it is considerably cheaper to purchase than the "Office Suite"
or individual programs. There is also a completely free open source office
suite called "Open Office" you might look at.
