I came to XP home via a new PC. and I am very unhappy
with the op system. In 98 I could find a file I wanted.
ie a readme file associated with a particular program. I
can't figure out how do do this, if at all possible, with
XP home. Is this a crap op sys and I have to buy an XP
Pro upgrade????

Anything new is unfamiliar and difficult at first. XP, in my
view, is *far* better than 98, and well worth the trouble to get
familiar with it.

In 98 I could find a file I wanted.

And you can't in XP? How have you tried, and what happened?

Far from it. It's far and away the best version of Windows ever.

No, no. XP Home and Professional are nearly identical, except
that Professional includes a few features, mostly relating to
networking and security, missing from Home. If you're a home
user, it's very likely that you couldn't tell the difference
between the two.

I felt just the same way before buying this computer with XP, and was
even thinking of formating and installing 98. But I found some great
new features, changed what I could to look like 98, and now I don't
really see any difference, and I've only had it a week! Give it a
chance.

Stavis,

I've had Win95, 98 and ME. Windows XP is by far a better system. You
will have to get used to it though. If the appearance of the operating
system is causing you confusion, it's easy to make it look much more
familiar. If you right click on the desktop and then select properties
you'll get a window with four tabs. Now select the appearance tab. There you
will be able to change the desktop to "Windows Classic" style. You can do
the same thing for the start menu. Right click the Start button and select
properties. You can change to ":Classic Start Menu". Why don't you give it a
try. You may find it easier to find your way around. Also, you'll find "Help
& Support" much more useful than in previous versions. Give it a try.

By the way, if you're looking for a file or program that you can't find,
try putting it's name in "Search". Let the computer find it for you. You can
open it from there or you can have XP "open it's containing folder" so that
you can see where it's located.

Hope this helps,
Milt

Sorry, I really do not understand your compliant/problem. If you are looking
for general help with Windows XP, go to "Help and Support". For help within
any specific program, click Help up on the Toolbar. Remember that some files
are hidden and the Search Function must be modified for an Advanced Search
to find and access them. Be more specific, please
Gene

Is it the Search area that is giving you trouble? That can be changed
to make it more similar to Win98. XP is really a very good system, but
they have changed some areas that didn't need changing.

Right click on start and select "help and support" ask your question and
find the hawser. To answer your question xp pro will not help on bit. The
problem is the operator not the operating system. Also, there is a very
valuable resource called the internet and Goggle.

stavis,

did anyone tell you to use search routine ??

start - search - all files and folders - type in some of the file name -
select search

windows xp is the best operating system that microsoft has ever come up with

the system restore utility is worth the cost of admission

let me know if you have more find/search questions
