Suppose one had a printer on an old computer and wanted to move it to
a new one. Is there a program that could find what files are needed so
that they could be copied across ? A HP LaserJet 4P for example.

Regards, John.

It's probably not necessary for Windows. I just installed an
old LaserJet IIIP on an XP system, and everything was all ready
there.

I suggest you go to the printer maker's web page and you'll find what you
need there

In this particular case, yes. But I was also thinking of future,
similar situations, where the drivers might not be so obtainable.

Thanks, but in my case I was thinking of giving my printer to someone
using '98.

Win98 definitely has the printer drivers for a LaserJet 4.

Just as a general point John, I've always tried the manufacturer's site
as a first port of call. I've managed to "magically" solve lots of
hardware-related problems with updated drivers. I know it's not always
possible to go this route though.
