When I click on a contact folder sometimes the first contact is selected and
sometimes it is not. If it is not selected I can not start typing the name
of a contact to find it until I select the contact. Does anyone know how to
make the first contact always be selected when I click on a contact folder?

There is no consistent solution in this version. In Outlook 2003, using the
Outlook Today default Home Page causes this loss of screen focus. You can
try the same in Outlook 2002.

I would like to try the same thing, but what is it that I am suppose to try?
Where is this solution for Outlook 2003? I searched the KB and this forum,
but don't see anything refering to this.

It's not in the KB. It only applies if you are using the Outlook Today
default Home page
Just turn off the default home page for your root folder in Outlook
Properties > Home Page.
