Hello.

I've just installed a home nettwork on two computers using a switch. Both computers are on the internet now via the switch, but when I open my local network, I cannot find the other computer! Only my own files and my computer. Can someone please help me before i go mad:-)

Are you running ICF or a third party firewall on either computer?
Disable ICF, but any third party firewall you will have to remove
entirely.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

If you have a switch rather than router, then your ISP is assigning IPAs
to your two PCs, and they do not usually guarantee that those two IPAs
are in the same IP subnet. If that is the case, you have two choices:
replace the switch with a router/switch, or convince your ISP to always
issued a pair of IPAs in the same IP subnet.

If you don't know what you have, get the model number from the device and
head to the vendor's website.
