I want to know what I need to do to find a previous
version of Windows installed on my hard drive, or if thats
possible. I currently run Windows 2000 prof and i want to
know if i can find my Windows 98 installation, and steps
on how to find it or restore it if possible.

There is no simple answer,
it depends on:
- how and where (same drive/partition) w2k was installed?
- if same drive/part did you convert to ntfs?
- has it been an upgrade or an additional installation?
- did you use standard install folders?
- what language versions did you use?

there are some hints to decide if a windows(98) installation exists:
do an "attrib c:\" in a command/cmd shell.
Do you recognize these files?
c:\bootsect.dos
c:\msdos.dos
c:\io.dos

if you issue:
type c:\boot.ini do you see an entry beginning with "C:\=" under the
label "[opreating systems]" ?
Do you have a file win.com in the folder C:\windows ?

A really working old/parallel installation would normally show up on the
first non-bios screen when booting and let you decide what to boot.
You will find tips/howtos by googling the keyword dualboot or multiboot.

To reanimate a buried windows installtion is a difficult task, and if
hardware changed since of questionable results
