Find out my modem type/brand without taking computer apart?

How do I find out what type and brand of internal modem I have without
taking the computer apart?

msinfo32

(You should be able to find that information via the spec sheet for
your computer, though.)

Maureen: I ran system info and clicked on modem before I posted here. I
don't know how to read that stuff that shows there. However, it says Lucent
Win Modem and I figured this was just the default or closest thing XP could
get to setting up my modem for me. Device ID just says PCI with alot of
numbers behind it.

My modem is listed as "generic", so I'd assume that you have a Lucent
modem. (Big company - my daughter-in-law and her father work there).
You could go to the device manager to get some more information about
your particular modem. Control panel \ system \ hardware \ device
manager. Expand the modem, right click yours to get properties.

Are you trying to update your drivers or ... ?
 
Yea, I did a search on the Net for Lucent Win Modem and found a website that
took me to the latest driver. I was on 5.0 and the latest is 8.0. The change
in driver did not solve my CPU problem though that I posted in another
thread:

"P4, 2.4ghz, 500mb memory, 40gig hard drive, Asus motherboard with onboard
graphic card.

Every time I dial up with my internal modem my cpu usage shoots from 3% cpu
usage to 70%. This cause the screen to freeze and mouse to lock up for about
a second.

Why does this happen and what does this suggest about my computer? Could
this be a driver problem?"
