Hi All,

My Find function in Excel 2000 has stopped working
properly. It fails to find text that is right there. I
have experienced this issue before but closing Excel or
rebooting used to fix it. Now it doesn't. I cannot ask my
desktop guy to reinstall Office for me again; he's done
it twice in the last three months and it did not resolve
the issues for which I was asking for that. Is there
possibly a DLL or other file in which the Find function
resides, or on which it depends, that might be corrupted,
which I could get from another user's machine and copy it
over mine?

TIA,

Gregg

You may have inadvertently added a format to your Find, which means Excel is
seraching not just for the text you enter, but also for a particular cell
format. (I'm on 2002 and am not sure whether Find Format is included in
2000, by the way.) To find out if this is the case, open your Find window,
then expand your Options by clicking the "Options" button (if it's not
already expanded). A Format preview (which says either "Preview" or "No
Format Set" depending on whether you've selected a format to search for) and
Format button should appear to the right of your "Find What" bar. If your
Format preview says "Preview" then you need to clear it. Click on the
drop-down arrow on the "Format" button, then select "Clear Find Format."

I've seen problems with merged cells confusing Find. Is that a possibility?

And what are you searching for: "some text like this"
Maybe those spaces aren't really spaces. If you got it from the web, they could
be those non-breaking spaces that screw up excel users a lot.
