duplicate files..Preferably something that will allow me to do custom
searches..like dups of jpgs for one search and a separate search for
bmps etc etc

http://www.bigbangenterprises.de/en/doublekiller/

DoubleKiller searches single or multiple folders/partitions for
identical files. Depending on the settings the files' names, sizes,
dates and/or CRC32-checksums (which represent the content of the files)
are compared with each other. Masks like *.mp*g or *.dll define which
files are (not) scanned. Files with certain flags, e.g. hidden files,
may be excluded from the search. Besides you can limit the search to
files with a user-defined filesize. When the search is finished a list
containing all double files found is displayed and you can select the
files which should be deleted or moved.

dupelocater find dups very quickly, i use it often, but you have to drag
whole folders in it for searching, so you'll have to divide images in
folders or select carefully files to delete. anyway worths a try.
i seem to remember it's no longer available from its website, but can be
found via google.

This one is great. I see the site is down for maintenance right now, though
you still can download.

Easy Cleaner http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/files/EClea2_0.exe will do that, but you are setting
yourself a long task.

Only because that program is probably the worst program ever developed
in the world for duplicate searching. ANY duplicate searching program,
anywhere, would be better.

Hi there John, I have never tried to remove duplicates with easycleaner. When I first ran it there were too many
duplicates to play around with. So instead of making a balls up I let it go. I have pointed out the program to
richk as it removes duplicates.
