Find & Delete identical PICTURES ??

Hi all..

I have a directory where I have thousands of pictures. Unfortunately,
somehow, many of the pictures are exactly the same -- except they have
different filenames!

I'm desperately looking for a program that will automatically figure out
which files (i.e. pictures) are exactly the same and delete the duplicates
for me... Is there such a program?

PLEASE help.. I'll be here the rest of my life trying to do this manually.
ANY help would be very much appreciated.

Just a thought...

Have you tried sorting by file size? I would suspect that it would be
rare for NON-identical pictures to be the exact same size, while
identical ones should be adjacent to each other in the list.

Still would require manual deletion, but it might not be that bad once
you got going.

DupeLocater ~176Kb
FAST* Leaves the others in the DUST. Here's how it works * Open a
My Computer window, and DupeLocater * Drag the folders you want to
search from My Computer into DupeLocater. * Click the Search Button. *
DupeLocater will search the directories, and all their sub-directories.
Then it will display a duplicate file list. * Drag the files out of the
duplicate list, and drop them anywhere you want. Into a viewer, into
another folder, or into the trash bin. * Be careful! You can drag a lot
of files, from all different folders this way! It can be very
challenging to undo!

Do any programs more closely examine the contents of images so that it can
find near-duplicates -- i.e., images that have been re-saved (in
IrfanView) to minimize file size, or images that have been resized?

Dupdetector can find similar images (same image resized and such)

Dear Mr. Son Of Spy,

You are a @^#$% GENIUS!!!!!!!

Seriously... thank you ENORMOUSLY for letting me know about that program.
It worked perfectly. In under 5 minutes I was totally done thanks to your
suggestion.. the program found over 500 duplicates!! That would have taken
me HOURS!!!

Thanks again - REALLY,

:)

Yes. Dup detector, suggested by Susan here some time ago.

For my personal taste, the greatest is Cerious Thumbsplus. (Edit / Find similar
images). Off topic here because not freeware, but very superior interface and
functionality. Great for general picture database management.

'All pics must first have been thumbnailed in Thumbs+'

That looks to me to be a bit limiting compared to something like
Dupelocater.

"Dupelocater" works great for this, and is SO FAST.
