The actual version is Beta 2. Do you know when the final version will take
place and if it will be also available for Windows XP ? I understand that the
final version of Defender will be incorporated only into Windows Vista.
Thanks and bye

Some time later this year, I believe.

Defender will be available for Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP2, and Vista. And it
won't have any additional cost beyond what you paid for the OS.

Windows Defender is supposed to be incorporated into OneCare Live. That is
close to being released. I don't think that Microsoft will have a beta
product as part of a program/service that they plan to charge the user for.
Therefore I think that Windows Defender will go "gold" at about the time
that OneCare Live does.

Nope. Windows Live OneCare is already "gold" although they've said further
changes in the product are possible. Windows Defender communicates with
OneCare, and OneCare can both alert to out of date defs, and initiate a
scan--but that's the extent of the integration.
