I have added a number of words to the filters.txt file
located in program files\microsoft office\office10\1033 .
I also made the additions to files named filters.txt in
directories above this one. The problem is that outlook is
not filtering out emails with these new words ? Any
suggestions ?

The filters.txt file is informational only. You cannot edit it to enhance
the spam filtering. You can create rules however within teh rules wizard.

I have just installed POPfile to run with my OL2000. Before today my
rules would refuse to work, and shut off. Since I put in POPfile, which
runs in the background between your ISP mail and OL and so far has been
killing the junk mail like crazy. I had 20 rules and even then half the
garbage would get by. Right now I am getting 85 messages, so far all
the junk is in the delete file, and that's after one 'training' session.

A couple of hints the 'x-text-classification:' requires a space between
the : and the buck name. Not in the docs, but it wouldn't filter and I
tried that and it worked. If you set up quarantine on the spam bucket
it wont let the system even try to read attachments. If it kills
something by mistake you can go into the history and reclassify it.
Easy to learn, so far.

Yes, I agree. I've been using Popfile v. 0.19.1 for a while now and find it
the best solution I've found so far.It can be found more directly at:

http://popfile.sourceforge.net/

Another good piece of software is Outclass v. 1.2.4.1, which is a front end
for Popfile that puts a toolbar in Outlook (W2K and XP only) found at:

http://www.vargonsoft.com/Outclass/

Be sure to read the instructions as the configuration of Popfile is
different if you use Outclass.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Popfile v. 0.20.0 has just been released and Outclass does
not work with it, yet, but I think it likely will, in time. When I found the
problem, I went back to Popfile v. 0.19.1 and all works well, again!
