question 1
how can we set filter to pivot table result, say i need to have all
name,..., whose birthday is in March?

question 2
pivot table use to have subtotal, which i could not hide even using some
check boxes in options.
anybody can suggest how to hide subtotal values?

thanx

1) Click on the dropdown and deselct the ones you don't want.

2) Right click on the field that is being subtotalled, choose field settings and
then where on the left of the dialog box you see it says 'Automatic Subtotals'
choose none.

hi, thanx for reply, however, i still hav problems
1) it works only if it has only a few items.
If it has several items then i hv to hide such thousands of items. for
example, let say i want all data only for month of april, 1990, then a lot
of hiding has to be done.
is there any better idea?

2) i seems a bit dump here
not sure what u says as "field settings" mean "field" when i right click
on the field on pivot table.
Even it is so, however, i could not get "Automatic Subtotals" check box.
What I have seen is only when I choose "options", however, unchecking also
doesn't solve the problem.
can explain more in detail?

1) You can group the Date field, then add the fields to the Page area:
-- Add the Date field to the Row area
--Right-click on the button for the Date field
--Choose 'Group and show detail' > Group
--Select Years and Months, click OK
--Drag the Years and Date fields to the Page area
--Select a Year and Month from the dropdown list in the Page Area

2) To remove the subtotals for a field:
--Right-click on the field button in the pivot table
--Choose Field Settings
--Under Subtotals, select 'None'
--Click OK
