filtering and counting

When I use the "autofilter" function of Excel, sometimes
I get the count of the number of records which passed the
filter on the lower left hand side and sometimes I do not
get this count, but just "filtering mode". Why is that?

When your list has many formulas, the Status Bar may show "Filter Mode"
instead of a count of the visible records. There are articles in the
