Hi,
we have many contact records (1,800) that we want to use to create some
distribution lists.
To add each contact manually will be time consuming, so I want to filter the
list based on criteria. I know how to do this in the Contacts pane but
working with Distribution lists seems limited.
Just to clarify: I guess we could just 'Customise view' for contacts, but
what we really want to do is select addresses from that customised view and
create a distribution list.
Any suggestions appreciated!

You may find ContactGenie Toolkit of interest
(http://www.contactgenie.com/toolkit_4_outlook.htm)
The recent functions added are specifically related to PDLs - one of which
is creating a PDL from an existing contact folder which can also be
filtered using virtually any contact field(s). (specific version of CTK
should be 1.3.1 or higher)

Have you read any of the information here on how limited and unreliable DL's
are? Are you sure they are your best alternative for grouping recipients?

create a filtered view that has just the email addresses or email address
and full name. Copy the list and paste into the Members field of the DL.

Thanks Karl,
it looks like this may kill 2 or even three birds with one stone.
We also need to link data from an Access (2003) db to a shared folder - it
looks like Contact Genie could do a job there too?
I see contact genie has many products - I assume you are referring to the
toolkit?

Thanks Russ,
I'm only finding that out now!
I guess my best alternative is to do an advanced find.
That's easy enough - but is it possible to save the search?

Hi Diane,
for my distribution lists requirements (i.e. mailers) your solution will
work just fine. Thank you.
