I am running a Access 97. I have a form with imbedded
subforms, and when I do an Apply Filter in Filter by Form,
then navigate with the built-in "arrow" at the bottom of
the outermost form, it generates an Access Violation. Is
my only recourse to migrate to a later version of Access,
or is there some trick maybe I can do to avoid the
problem? Thanks.

Filter By Form does work in A97, so changing version won't help.

Do you have Service Patch 2 for Office 97?
And the Jet service patch as well?

It is possible that your database is partially corrupt.
Try a compact (Tools | Database Utilities), followed by a repair, decompile
(command prompt) and finally another compact.

If that doesn't work, create a new database, and import all the objects
except the form giving you this problem. Then recreate the form.

There are other possible causes, but if it's consistent and limited to this
one form, those steps should be the most likely solution.
