I am totally stumped - and frustrated - by a task I've
done a thousand times and now can't remember how to do
it! I am trying to complete a form that has an underline
where information needs to be filled in. How do I fill
in the information without losing the underscore?
Example: Name ________ how do I write John Jones on the
line without losing the line? I am using Word 97 for
this task. Thank you to anyone who can help.

Suzanne, and other MVPs, I followed your suggestion but
could only find how to design a form so they could be
filled in. The form was supplied to me, now I would like
to fill in my name, date, etc. without removing the
underscoring. Can this be done when you don't know what
format was used - appears to be straight word
processing? Thank you again.

The article at http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/LinesInForms.htm
also discusses other ways of creating underlines. In your case, however, I
would just overwrite the underline with the filled-in text. Don't worry
about messing up the form, which was obviously created by someone who
doesn't know how to create online forms in Word. Or print the form out and
fill it in by hand or using a typewriter, which seems to be all it's good
for!
