How do I get my computer to fill in log on names automatically when I type a
letter or start to type a name?

Microsoft makes use of AutoComplete in different areas of the Operating
System. In Internet Explorer, you can enable this feature under Internet
Options > Content Tab, under the Personal Information section, click
AutoComplete.

In Microsoft Word (at least the last few recent versions), you can control
this feature seperately. It displays a screentip when you start to entire the
first few characters of an AutoText entry. This feature is on by default.
For example, open word and begin to type the day's date (use the current
day). When you type "Saturday, Oct" it pops up with "Satuday, October 14,
2006" in a screentip. Simply press enter to fill in the rest. To adjust
these settings:

1) On the Insert menu, point to AutoText, and then click AutoText.
2) Select or clear the Show AutoComplete suggestions check box.

You can't. You have your choice between the Welcome Screen, which displays
all users on a system, or the old-skool Login screen, which won't
autocomplete names because it can reveal the username half of
username/password authentication pairs.

The Welcome Screen is designed with home users in mind and probably what you
want in this situation. The classic login screen exists for situations
like companies that benefit from not giving away usernames at the login
prompt.
