Filing reports in another language?

Kai-Uwe v. d. Ohe

Since sometimes I'm a lazybone, a sluggard and an
idle fellow, I'd like to write my reports in my native
language. I haven't done so as of yet, since I thought
that would lead to a scant chance for them to be-
come read. Is that true and should I continue to ago-
nize my twodotfive working brain cells?

Kai-Uwe (German)

I'm sure they would be able to read it because Microsoft has newsgroups for
other things that are German.

Email (e-mail address removed) and ask the Vista team. I don't know how anyone
in a peer-to-peer newsgroup like this one would know that.

Well, some MVPs lurk around here, so chances are, the
knowledge I'm asking for may hover above these group
in the form of a not yet materialized cluster of letters, wai-
ting to come to life in order to enlighten the ignoramuses...

The (beta) report client offers a broad variety of laguages
so I was tempted to pick german ;-) but don't really think
they wuold treat such reports the same way they do with
repoprts filed in english. Anyway, my braincells are ready
to become abused some more ;-)

I didn't realize that - missing the "[MVP]" addon - and maybe
not every MVP is necessarily involded in such a way that he/
she can answer the question. But anyway, I'm definitely not
interested in a "group-war" of any kind. I will continue writing
my reports in the language I expect to be the one that is spo-
ken by every person working on the project.

Kai-Uwe

asked, is because it would be easier for me to be as precise
and accurate I'm used to be when it comes to descriptions of
technical coherences. Sorry, if I tread on sb.'s foot, but some
toes seem to stick out of their shoe a bit.

Colin is very modest, and does not include "MVP" in his signature. But he
is exceptionally helpful and his advice is worth heeding. He has helped me
immensely. His specialty is virtual machines, so if you ever want to know
the intricate nuances, he's your man.

My personal opinion is that a company as diverse and large as Microsoft
would be able to handle something as simple as a bug report in your native
language, and if it were me (but it isn't) I would submit them in Deutsch.
But you must be comfortable, and if you feel that sending them in English is
better, then do so.

Also, I must say, your English is quite excellent for it not being your
native language!

Good Luck

Mark

Being an MVP I can tell you that we are not employees of Microsoft. Just
ask the Vista team directly.

Colin, it's certainly no my intention to annoy you! I really
wouldn't have expected this thread to go that somewhat
weird route. My question was meant as simple as I wrote:
does MS feel ok with me writing my findings in Deutsch,
as Mark pointed out. Maybe it's my sense of humor that
sometimes turns into a kind of a own goal, I don't know -
or maybe I should add more smileys from time to time :-)

Oh yes, thganks for the email adress. For the case the
last glass of wine I drank the evening before was bad,
giving me one of those bad hangovers, perhaps I will go
ahead and ask them ;-)

Kai-Uwe

Thanks for your time and the hint regarding Colin. In fact I installed
Virtual PC 2004 the day before. I'm very interested in this technic as
it seems to become more important every day and offers so many
potentialities, like trying out software at virtually [;-)] no risk. I was
even able to install Virtual PC on a VM (XP Pro) I just created but
it was smart enough to stop me when I tried to set up a VM inside that...
So far for my sense of humor - and yes, I expected Virtual PC to not
let me do this ;-)

Kai-Uwe
