Filing Folders in Windows XP.

I am just recovering from a crashed HD. Now as I am putting things back
to-gether I cannot list folders/files as before. Now every folder ends up
in 'C:\Windows'.

I would like to have my Folder of Travel Files listed as before under
C:\Travel rather than having it appear as C:\Windows/Travel. 'Windows'
would also then be one of the many sub headings under C:\.

I would also like to restore the Desktop Shortcut that opened up the full
listing of folders under C:\.

Use Windows key +E to open Explorer to My Computer. With only one
drive/partition, this will default to opening with C: as the focus.
Otherwise the focus will be on "My Computer." Alternatively, create a
shortcut for Windows Explorer and enter the following as the target line:
C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /e,c:

You can move existing folders to the desired location. There are various
methods for moving a folder. I like using "right click drag" as when the
folder is dropped you are asked to select exactly what you want to happen.
You can select move or select copy. Move is the most direct route but Copy
offers a little extra insurance. If the transfer of the folder balks, you
still have the original copy of files on hand. Once the transfer has
completed successfully, then delete the folder from its original location.

For new folders: Where you place the focus before creating a new folder,
determines where the folder will be located at. If you highlight
C:\Windows, that is where the folder is created. Move the focus to the
desired location. If you are going to place that folder directly off of C:,
that's what you want to highlight in Windows Explorer before using the New>
Folder command.
