I have this constant problem of this grey pop up box
saying i need to insert my XP Home Edition CD because i
have unstable files can you help me?
What is the title of the message window? What exactly does it say?
If you have recently installed drivers or software, Windows File Protection
might make a prompt about needing to replace some files with proper
versions. Did you make any changes recently?
Have you tried doing what the message suggests? If you do not have a
Windows CD because your system was preinstalled, look closely at the window
asking for the CD. It should contain controls that you can use to redirect
it to the folder full of Windows setup files that the OEM placed on the
hard drive.
The folder is usually named "i386" : C:\i386, D:\i386 or similar. There
may be a Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder. These are files that were
added by SP1 and not the main folder of Windows setup files.
If the message continues after providing Windows with the files it needs to
repair itself, do a full system scan with an up to date antivirus program.
If that comes up clean, run chkdsk.
