I wanted to replace the .pst file inthe newly installed Vista + Office
(outlook) The search culd not find the original .pst file. Is there a
definitive way to find files? I was searchin for outlook.pst and .pst

You need to ensure you can see hidden files and folders from the folder
option in control panel. The usual place for the file would e documents and
settings/username/localsettings/application data/Microsoft/outlook. You
should see your outlook.pst file and archive.pst file

In Vista, the Documents and Settings folder has been replaced by Users. On
my machine, both Outlook.pst and archive.pst are in:
C:\Users\RC\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
