just ran my first defrag on my xp pro puter and the
resulting report showed 30 file that couldn't be
defragmented. 20 of those are (\System Volume
Information\_restore{...} \. I like to keep my machine as
clean as possible but I don't know if I need all that
restore info or how to find it and get rid of it if I
don't. It seems to me I shouldn't need endless restore
info if everything is working fine and I would only need
a resent restore point the go back to just in case. can
anyone assist me here thank you

It is normal to have a few files/folders that cannot be
defragged, system volume is one of these they are your
restore check points, also programs in use at the time of
defraggin will be unable to be defragged

System restore by default uses 10% of your hard drive
space it is a resource hog you can change the amount of
space it uses in control panel. There is no reason to have
more than a couple of restore points available

I might add that Disk Cleanup has a "More Options" tab which allows you to
delete all but the latest restore point.

I don't have trouble defragging the SVI folder, but even if I did I
wouldn't worry, since System Restore isn't in a
high-performance-required path. You only read those files when restoring
a checkpoint.
