Hi. I run XP Pro and my defrag only runs about 40-50% then
quits, saying it is done, and some files didn't defrag.
The report is empty, but there are some files that show in
the window as a medium size red line that won't defrag no
matter what. How do I know what files they are, and how do
I defrag them? GRRRRRR!

when the defrag runs, it only moves the fragments of a
file if there is a space large enough for the entire file
to be stored somewhere. if you have large chuncks of red
after defrag runs, then try clearing space off your disk,
and then run it again. if you dont defrag regularly(3+
times a week) and your drive is getting full, the best
thing to do before a defrag is go on a deleting spree

I have 67% free space on my hard drive. That shouldn't be
the prob. Sorry I forgot to mention that. :(

I suggest trying this excellent better than the windows
version defragmenter program, Diskeeper, located here;
http://consumer.execsoft.com/diskeeper/diskeeper.asp?RId=1

Thanks, Jim for that info. That may be just what I'm
looking for. I will check it out next payday! I suppose I
will survive till then. Ha ha ha. ;)

right click on desktop, go to proberties/screensaver/power
management/sleep mode (or so...)..uncheck the box there
and OK. Restart and defrag again.
