Files & Setting Transfer Wizard.

I am fairly new to computers.... I am experiencing difficulties with
transfering files and settings from my old computer to my new notebook
computer.

When I use the wizard, I get to the 'Set up your serial connection' portion
okay; however, after I click the 'Autodetect' button on both computers, the
wizard displays the following message: "Please wait.... Please wait while the
wizard is connecting to the other computer. This may take a minute..." After
this nothing happens with the exception of this message remaining on the
computer screens. I waited a little over an hour on two occassions and
nothing happened, so I cancelled the wizard both times on both computers.

To connect the computers I am utilizing an USB A/A Male/Male cable as my
'Direct Cable'. I have no Serial Cables, besides, I have several USB ports
and the USB cable was easier to get a hold of.

What might be the cause of the wizard not locating each computer and
connecting? What can I do to rectify this problem, so that I may transfer my
files and settings? All I am interested in doing is transferring my all my
Emails folders and Emails along with my addressbook, as well as all the
folders and files in 'My Document' folder, not to mention 'My Favourites'
from Internet Explorer.

Any and all assistance will be most appreciated and welcomed.

Unless you specifically configure the direct cable
connection to use USB or Serial, the default is Paralell.
You'll need to do some sleuthing into configuring the direct
connection for either USb or 9pin serial for each then
follow the recommendations.

In 2 Timothy 3:1-7, there is a list of the qualities that
Unregenerate man will have in the last days. Is your quality
found there? If So, don't despair - Christ came to save His
people.

A simple USB A/A Male/Male cable will not work for connecting two
computers. There are USB cables that will do this job but they are
specialized and also require software.

It might be cheaper and faster to set up a simple 2 computer
peer-to-peer network using 2 10/100baseT Network Adapters and a
Crossover cable.

Good luck

A simple USB A/A will not do it; it has to be a USB cross over device,
which is rather more complex and points the output wire from one into
the input of the other (and also isolates the power lines from each
other)
