Files on XP won't save from Windows 98 Workstation

I have an application that has been loaded onto an XP
computer. I can access records from the XP computer,
edit, save, etc. When I access that program from a
Windows 98 computer, I can make the edits to the records,
but none of the changes save.

I've called my OEM tech support for XP and they told me
that the reason for the problem is that the file systems
are not compatible.

Help!
 
I would check the permission first.
