Files on Root Getting deleted automatically

Hi
We have a win2k prof workstation whose files on root get
deleted automatically the folder do not get deleted only
the files get deleted thet also only the files which are
on the root it be any file a sys file or txt or any of the
file. can u give the reason & solution for the same.
 
The files might get deleted by any of the following processes:
- Your logon script
- Some scheduled task (check your your Task Scheduler)
- Some virus
- Some hacker
- Some malicious action, by someone using your PC or
by someone accessing it via the network

Check your PC for viruses, and install a firewall.

There was a certain version of McAfee AV that was known to do this.
